Saturday 25th August saw the country’s top kitesurf racers battling it out in Mounts Bay for the 2012 Pasty Cup. As a new Olympic discipline there has been a lot of interest surrounding the sport and a few of the ex Olympic windsurf squad who have made the switch for Rio came to pit their newfound skills against the seasoned kite racers in arguably the best kite racing location in the country.
Organised by local kitesurfing school, Pasty Adventures and with racing being run by Penzance Sailing Club competitors were greeted to windy squally conditions along with professionally run races out in the middle of the bay between Marazion and Penzance.
After 6 exciting races it was UK Tour leader Olly Bridge who’s only 15 in 1st place winning all races bar the last as he went in after the 1st lap! This left 2010 UK champ Callum Edge to take 2nd by winning the last race ahead of 4 times women’s World Champ, Steph Bridge in 3rd.
